The Modesty Guide
The art of coverage
What modesty means at Sahar — how we measure coverage, choose sleeves and line every gown so what you see is exactly what you wear.

The principle
Coverage is the first line, not the last
Before colour, before crystal, we resolve the sleeve, the neckline and the line of the back. Modesty is engineered into the silhouette — a measurement we design to, never a label we add once the gown is finished.
This guide is how to read that work: the four coverage levels we label, the sleeve studies behind them, and the lining that means the photograph and the gown are one and the same.
Coverage levels
Four levels, clearly labelled
Every product lists its coverage level so you can shop with confidence. The meter below shows roughly how much each level covers — and remember, most pieces can be made more covered still through custom.

Level by level
What each label promises
- Full
- Maximum coverage — long lined sleeves, a high neckline and a fully closed back.
- High
- Generous coverage with refined detailing through the neck and wrist.
- Modest
- Our baseline — covered shoulders and arms with a considered neckline.
- Adjustable
- Detachable capes, sleeves and overlays you can style up or down.

Coverage should never read as restraint — it is the discipline that lets the beauty go further.
Sleeve studies
Three ways to cover the arm

Sleeve study 01
The feather cape
A cape sleeve reads as pure movement, not concealment. Feather is fluffed and steamed full so the arm is covered from shoulder to wrist while the silhouette stays weightless and theatrical.

Sleeve study 02
The long lined sleeve
Where the occasion asks for full coverage, the sleeve is fully lined and set with crystal to the cuff — opaque, structured and warm, yet built to bend and dance without a single adjustment all evening.

Sleeve study 03
The sheer overlay
A scattered-crystal mesh overlay covers the arm and shoulder in a whisper of beadwork — the lightest way to dress the skin, drawn so the coverage looks intentional rather than improvised.
On every product
The coverage spec sheet
- Coverage level
- Full, high, modest or adjustable — listed on every product so you shop knowing exactly how much each gown covers before it ever arrives.
- Sleeve density
- From sheer scattered-crystal overlays to fully lined opaque sleeves — the density you see photographed is the density delivered.
- Neckline
- Considered at the first sketch and raiseable through custom — high, refined or softened, never an afterthought stitched on at the end.
- Back & lining
- Closed backs and full linings as standard, so coverage is built into the cloth itself rather than relied upon from styling or a slip beneath.

Three ways to wear a Sahar gown
Buy

Hire

Custom
Commission a one-of-one piece drawn to your measurements, coverage and beadwork.
Occasionwear can be offered for sale, hire or custom; formalwear is sale-only; custom pieces are commissioned (and may also be purchased) — never hired.

Good to know
Modesty questions, answered
Are sleeves always included?
Yes. Coverage is designed in from the first sketch — every gown is shown and delivered with the sleeve density it advertises.
Can I make a gown more covered?
Almost always. Necklines can be raised, linings added and sleeves lengthened on most pieces through our custom service.
What's the difference between Hire and Buy?
Buying makes the gown yours. Hiring lets you wear an occasion piece for your event with a refundable bond, then return it. Formalwear is sale-only.
Do you ship across Australia?
Yes — pieces are couriered nation-wide, or collected from the studio. Fittings are arranged for custom and made-to-order gowns.
How long does a custom gown take?
Typically several weeks depending on beadwork density and fittings. We'll give you an honest timeline against your event date before you commit.
In our words
Modest occasionwear, designed in Australia
Sahar Modesty designs modest gowns for weddings, nikkahs, engagements, henna nights and formal events. Each piece is built around coverage — long sheer or lined sleeves, capes, raised necklines and full linings — so you can dance, sit and celebrate without adjusting. We work in crystal, pearl and feather across mesh, tulle and satin, and fit every made-to-order and custom gown in person.
Coverage, sizing and care
Our coverage levels — full, high, modest and adjustable — are listed on every product alongside sleeve density and lining, so you always know what arrives. Sizing is AU canonical, with custom fits available, and each gown comes with care guidance for its beadwork and fabric.
